Lasting impact of COVID on our kids!

06/01/2023

The Impact of Covid-19 is still being seen now!

😷 Little ones that are struggling with separation anxiety still
😷 I have children in years 1 & 2 that didn't get the socialisation skills in reception
😷 Kids in years 5 & 6 that missed out on foundational skills in many areas such as maths and english, ahead of their SATS this year
😷 Years 7 & 8 who didn't form those lasting friendships at the end of primary and are struggling to find their tribe
😷 Years 9 & 10 struggling with anxiety because their transition to high school was in a bubble
😷 Year 11 embarking on exam year, but worried they missed out with online learning as they started GCSE's
😷 Sixth formers not got the same level of confidence or freedom, missing out milestones such as proms, birthdays and end of exams celebrations

The pandemic might be over for most but its impacts will be felt for generations to come . 4 out 5 students have said their progress has been disrupted, as many are facing additional stressors and disruptions to their education.

As a therapist the impact the pandemic has had all ages means it's even more important look for the gaps in their resilience and support them to cope with life's challenges.

If you think your child is struggling, here are a few tips:

  1. Encourage students to reach out to their teachers or school support staff for help if they are struggling.
  2. Stay involved in your student's education by communicating with teachers, attending parent-teacher conferences, and participating in school events.
  3. Help students stay connected with their peers and support systems. Whether its teachers, family members or friends.
  4. Check if they need support with homework, reading, setting goals or creating a schedule to revise.
  5. Encourage them engage in activities outside of their school work, building their connections and confidence giving them a healthy balance.
